– Welcome to the “Research” part of this website –
These last 10 years I have been doing research to the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest and the actions of the 9th Infantry Division. I have spent many hours, days and months studying reports, combat interviews, books, documentaries and maps to get a better view of the events that I am interested in. Doing research is not something that will give quick results. It can be very frustrating at times. Sometimes it took months for me to find an answer to a certain question or to connect a certain event to a certain Company. The amazing thing about doing research is that you can slowly see your information growing in front of your eyes. Slowly pieces of the puzzle start to fit. The feeling of discovering something new, or to finally be able to know what happened on a certain day, is simply wonderful. I would like to point out, that many people don’t realize the time, money and effort it takes to do this type of research. Obtaining records from the National Archives or requesting personal files of the soldiers is time consuming. A lot of books about certain subjects have been written, but have gone out of print. Tracking these down can be challenging or expensive. By now I have found a good way to do my research, and will be happy to help anyone to information in regards to the men or actions of the 9th Infantry Division.
A lot of people don’t know where to start looking for information about the 9th Infantry Division. To help you, I will use this part of the website with tips of where to look for information. There are certain books that provide great information and mention some of the actions of the 9th Infantry Division.
